Adaptive sailing: a pathway to inclusion and autonomy

The Quebec Adaptive Sailing Association (AQVA) enables people with physical and/or sensory disabilities, even severe ones, to discover sailing and use it as a tool for inclusion and personal development.

By providing them with the necessary resources to navigate independently, we promote initiative and self-confidence, well beyond simply learning to sail. This sport, a symbol of freedom, helps break isolation and encourages active participation in the community.

Thanks to the commitment of our volunteers and the support of our inclusive board of directors, we work every day to promote adaptive sailing and demonstrate its positive impact on the lives of those who practice it.

Testimonials

« AQVA is a wonderful club for people of all ages with all kinds of disabilities. I am paraplegic and use a wheelchair, and it's great to be able to sail safely on Lake Saint-Louis with young, competent, and dynamic instructors. The club also offers a very popular regatta program.

« I discovered adaptive sailing when I was in rehabilitation at Constance-Lethbridge. They wanted to introduce us to activities that were possible to do in the summer despite our disability. For me, it was an extraordinary discovery.

And, since that time, every summer, it is with immense pleasure that I rediscover the joy of being on the water with a young sailor to pilot the sailboat. My favorite moment? At the end of the day, when the sun sets on Lake Saint-Louis. I experience almost ecstatic moments that I share with the young person accompanying me. I hope to be able to continue for a long time with AQVA. »

« AQVA has allowed me to practice an activity adapted to my disability. The staff is very professional and welcoming. I have been enrolled in the Learn to Navigate program for two years and have acquired many skills and knowledge thanks to the experienced instructors. I really love sailing and I love the fact that it is accessible to everyone. »
