HOW IT WORKS

AQVA is a program for children and adults with physical disabilities and/or sensory impairments.  We need to limit our activities to this group of people in order to meet the demand.  Unfortunately we cannot accommodate children or adults with intellectual impairments and/or autism spectrum disorders who do not have a mobility impairment.

  • Each participant will enjoy a session of approximately one hour.

  • We use two-person boats: one seat is reserved for the participant, and the other for one of our certified instructors.

  • The cost is $15 per adult participant. No fees for children under 18.

  • We can accommodate a maximum of 8 participants and 4 companions per session.

  • Our 4 boats allow for alternating groups: while the first group is sailing, the second group waits on land. A park located across from the sailing club offers a direct view of the sailboats.

  • There is no food or beverages available on-site. However, a dépanneur (not accessible) is located about 100 metres from the club.

  • We have an accessible restroom, equipped with a ceiling-mounted lift and a changing table (see photos at the bottom of the page).

  • Transfers from wheelchairs to the boat are done using lifts.

  • We have transfer slings available, but if a participant has their own, it is recommended to bring it already in place for added comfort.

  • To maximize sailing time, we ask participants to be ready upon arrival:

    • Wearing clothing suitable for the weather conditions (risk of splashes, cooler temperatures on the water).

    • Appropriate shoes.

    • Sunscreen applied.

    • Etc.

  • For safety reasons, the access to the sailing club is secured by a locked gate. An AQVA staff member will welcome you and open the gate. Please use the entrance closest to the water (see photo at the bottom of the page).

  • We do our best to ensure every participant can sail. However, due to weather conditions (light winds, gusts, storm risks, etc.), some sessions may be cancelled.

SAFETY GUIDELINES

Mini-profile for participants:

  • A mini-profile must be completed for each sailor and sent to us at least 2 weeks before the visit.

  • A link to the form will be sent to you once your organization is registered.

Safety and access to the facilities:

  • Wearing a life jacket is mandatory before going on the dock. AQVA can provide life jackets for participants.

  • For security reasons, only the person sailing and one companion can access it at a time, and always accompanied by an AQVA staff member.

  • Anyone not assisting directly with the transfer must stay on shore. For situations such as taking photos, please ask a staff member for permission, and they will tell you when it is OK to come on the dock.

Authorization form:

  • All participants must read and sign the authorization form before going sailing

Need assistance?

  • If you have any questions about a procedure, please reach out to an AQVA staff member. They will be happy to assist you.
