AQVA (Association québécoise de voile adaptée)
wishes to enable children and adults with physical and/or sensory disabilities, even very severe ones, to improve their quality of life and their integration into the community through the practice of sailing. Its activities take place in Pointe-Claire but it offers support to its affiliated organizations that offer adapted sailing programs in the Gaspésie and Eastern Townships.

Sip 'n' puff (SNP) is an assistive technology used to send signals to a device using air pressure by "breathing in" or "breathing out" on a straw, tube or "wand". It is primarily used by people who do not have the use of their hands. It is commonly used to control a motorized wheelchair by quadriplegics with severely damaged spinal cords or people with ALS. In the field of sailing, this device is installed close to the sailor, on his vest, to allow him to guide his boat. This is how René Dallaire, the founder of AQVA, was introduced to the pleasures of sailing!
